Tulo ka Laylay

I was a mere spectator to Russ' brilliance, a little over a year ago.

I first met Russ when we commissioned him to do a performance for our Materials Library opening and I found his art an interesting and curious interpretation of thought, action and visual play. Clearly not for everyone, by the way the people stared, but for me, it left me thinking and urged my brain to come up with own explanations for his movements and dance.

 He invited us again sometime in October to see his Butoh act in Handuraw called "Three Lullabies" and I came with a bunch of office friends. The place was full so we settled on the floor right in front of the stage and I was secretly happy as it actually gave me a good perspective of his whole performance.

He described the show as a "triptych performance show that debuts three performances inspired by specific time frames of the artist's confrontations with mortality, insomnia, and shared guilt." For me it was a night of strange and rapid movements and facial expressions that made for good discussions and interpretations after.

The first of many shoots the girlies and I did. 


I came home panicking when I was given the monumental task of shooting my high school friends' wedding. My ever supportive college best friends/soul sisters descended from different parts of Mindanao in my hour of need to be my models for my first ever practice shoot. Armed with a bag full of clothing and a gazillion fabulous ideas, we were just dressing up and deciding on our outfits when this happened. This was around the time when I discovered the joys of Lightroom.

My favorite shoot to date. I liked the "pre-nup" quality of the concept, the details of the outfits and the reflections. Plus the location provided many good spots to work on. 

And I was always curious about SRP. But the long walk in search for a cab dispelled the good feelings I had about the location. :D

What was supposed to be an outdoor shoot in Family Park quickly turned into an indoor shoot when the heavens decided otherwise. Tsk. But secretly, I was pleased because I was getting weary of the usual tried and tested nature backdrops.


The impromptu change of venue challenged us to find ways to work with the lack of lighting and limited space. Admittedly, I became very frustrated with my flash (or lack thereof) , but thankfully the girls were very patient with me as my flash recharged (is that even the right term?? haha).
